NR-37 SAFETY AND HEALTH ON OIL PLATFORMS THAT DEALS WITH DECOMMISSIONING – UPDATED 2018

Published in 14/04/2019 - Author Mauricio Almeida

Dear members of the Oil & Gas and Maritime community,

This Regulatory Standard 37 – Safety and Health on Oil Platforms, published by Ministry of Labor Ordinance No. 1,186 of December 20, 2018, and published in the Official Gazette on December 21, 2018, aims to establish the minimum requirements regarding HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) in work on units operating in oil production in our Brazilian Jurisdictional Area (AJB).

This includes foreign units, even those with a temporary operating schedule, without failing to comply with other legal provisions in the HSE area, as well as rules existing in international conventions and certifications.

For years, this discussion was the responsibility of a Tripartite Working Group. In December 2018, the final text of this NR was finally published by the Ministry of Labor. Even with this publication, we still have some events to be developed, such as the creation of the National Tripartite Thematic Commission – CNTT of NR-37, whose main focus is to monitor the implementation of this NR, as established in article 9 of MTE Ordinance No. 1,127, of October 2, 2003.
