We are pleased to announce that on June 20, 2018, the law firm Kincaid – Mendes Vianna Advogados, together with the Brazil-Norway Chamber of Commerce – NBCC, held an event on: “DECOMMISSIONING OF PLATFORMS”, inviting our President Mauricio Almeida, and also Mr. Itagyba Alvarenga Neto, representative of IBAMA, to discuss the technical and environmental aspects related to this imminent demand.
This event addressed issues related to the oil production chain, up to its end, culminating in the need to carry out DECOMMISSIONING.
Mauricio reported that there are more than 40 platforms in Brazil that are already out of operation and need to be dismantled. He addressed the global market, in which more than US$ 5 million was spent in 2017, and the forecast for 2025 is around US$ 8 million, with a projected growth of 5% per year. He concluded by pointing out a major environmental obstacle, which is the sun coral.
In addition, a cooperation agreement between SIGMA Consultoria and DECOM Solutions of UK was announced, which enabled a Consortium capable of competing for the future demands of the Brazilian DECOMMISSIONING market.
SIGMA Consultoria RJ is a fully national company, composed of several professionals in the oil & gas area, one of its partners being Mauricio Almeida himself, and has been studying this topic for more than two years, achieving several advances in the technical and commercial areas. And as a competitive advantage, it has a strategic partnership with the SENAI Innovation Institute, which is developing technology projects aimed at eliminating sun coral, present in more than 2,000 km of our Brazilian coast.
Mr. Itagyba, from IBAMA, presented important topics about the Institute, emphasizing the great responsibility they have in the matter of DECOMMISSIONING, both at the beginning of the exploration chain with the issuance of the Installation License, as well as in its deactivation. He concluded his speech by saying that IBAMA is at the disposal of society and open to discussing solutions related to environmental issues.
